Director: Ricky Gervais
Genre: Comedy
Hilarious! In a world where lie and truth do not exist, there is so much room for comedy, and Ricky Gervais knows comedy. He covered every possible detail: commercials, movies, first dates, jobs. Everything is told exactly how it is. If someone doesn’t like you, they say so, tell you why, and that’s that. No one answers “I’m fine” to the question “How are you today?” because you’re always something more than fine. You never tell your date the real reason why you don’t want to see him again; you come up with a lie to soften the blow. Not in this world.
The story had a very obvious religious aspect to it. In a world where stories are not told, religion does not exist. No one asks the question, “How did we get here?” because there is no provable truth to the answer. So when the main character, Mark, comes up with the idea of heaven, everyone is asking how he knows this. And since this is a world where whatever you say is true, they believe him when he says that “the man in the sky told him.”
I don’t have any negative comments about this movie. I believe this is now out in theatres, and if you want a good laugh, go see it. Maybe once I own it and watch it a few more times something questionable will stand out, but as for now, this movie is wonderful. Not a word of a lie.
