Director: Terry Gilliam
Genre: Mystery, Fantasy
Truth be told, I wanted to see this movie because Johnny Depp was in it. The cast is what drew me in: Christopher Plummer, Heath Ledger, Johnny Depp, Jude Law, and Colin Farrell. And, it was Heath Ledger’s final performance- he died during the making of this film. Can’t go wrong with a line up like that.
But it was more than the cast that made this movie great. It was so… well, imaginative. The effects were amazing, the story was interesting, the acting was wonderful, the sets were fantastic. I didn’t know exactly how the transition of the Tony character was going to jump from Ledger to Depp to Law to Farrell, but it was smooth and made sense. The whole concept and feel of it reminded me of something Tim Burton would do, except less dark, somehow. Although the story was a bit hard to follow at first, you’re having too much fun in the imagination of others to really think about it.
There was only one showing because it was for the film festival, so I am very happy that I was able to get off work early in order to see it. Alyssa and her sister Ashlee waited in line for an hour and half, in the rush line, in order to get the chance to see this film, and it was well worth it. Over 1000 people tried to get tickets to see this movie, and the line up for the ticket holders was over 3 blocks long. There was a huge turnout for this one, and I don’t think anyone was disappointed.
Stay tuned, because there will be plenty more reviews coming up. The Atlantic Film Festival runs for 9 days and I have a few more movies lined up to see, two of which I’ve already seen. So the updates are gonna keep on coming!
